The use of video in marketing

This week I am going to be away for a few days working on a tradestand but I will also be attending a marketing tradeshow featuring advertising technology. I know that I will see companies trying to sell their mobile marketing and video marketing skills so I will consider what applications there are for video marketing and possibly blog about it later in the week.
In the meantime I will share with the you another cute cat video (I really don't like cats but this is quite sweet)

Top watched youtube videos

I was reading an article that was published just this month that talked about the top videos on you tube. There are some staggering viewing figures out there, predominantly for music videos with Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga in spots one and two for the most watched videos on you tube. Historically music videos haven't always dominated the charts though and some bizarre and entertaining ones (not released by an artist) have slipped down the charts in the last 3 years from former glory.
A somewhat odd and perhaps entertaining video of 'Charlie bit my finger' features a small boy sitting with his younger baby brother. As you might have guessed in the clip, which is less than a minute long, Charlie bites his older brother's finger. A phenomenal 276.9 million viewers have watched the clip. Insane.
Another non-music-artist clip that has been watched by millions, indeed 165.6 million viewers is this one featured below: An Evolution of Dance.
I think I might have once seen this on RudeTube

Time lapse in a music video- Guillemots

So, I don't have any inside info on this one so I couldn't tell you what it was made with but I LOVE this video and had to share it. The use of video in the music industry is huge but this video seems relatively low budget. It was filmed in the Highlands of Scotland and many of the places featured are local to my home in Scotland where I grew up. The song is also beautiful so this seemed like a really apt video to use to demonstrate the use of time lapse in a music video.

Please do leave me a comment if you've enjoyed this video. I do promise that I am going to take the blog in a different direction now i've explored time lapse a bit more :-)

Time lapse used as an educational tool

Over the weekend I shared a video of an equine artist showcasing her talents via a time lapse video. I've also seen it used for B2B (Business to Business) and B2C (Business to Consumer) purposes as an educational tool, to promote a business.
One of these videos is here and shows time lapse in a different context

This was created using a Nikon camera and some add ons to the camera. Again shots were taken about 1 every 10 seconds for the duration of the installation. Processing on the computer created what you see now.

Getting started with making videos

Making videos needn't involve an internship at Warner Brothers, Universal Pictures and the like or endless hours spent on google researching what the best camera is... you can get started with something as simple as a mobile phone as long as it has a camera feature.
The majority of phones on sale in your local mobile phone shop will likely feature a camera (with varying degrees of quality) and that is all you need to capture moments and share them with friends, family and the wider world.

This blog will look at various reasons why you might want to take video as well as the wider picture on the subject. Along the way I will be throwing in video clips to show examples. For now I will leave you with a funny but seasonal one I was sign-posted to on Facebook! Enjoy!

Time lapse video, equestrian artist, horse painting

I have a friend who is an equine artist ie she creates amazing horse paintings. For a bit of fun one day she decided to create a time lapse video of her painting. This is pretty cool because she has captured about 20 hours of painting by setting up her camera on a tripod and setting it to take photographs for the duration of the painting.

These photos are then loaded onto the computer and some software processes them to create the time laspe.

Below are two of her videos if you have time to have a look. Her talent really is incredible.
